2:15pm – 5:30pm: Act One
In this Act, Matthew Hopkins is due to make a visit to High Verley, after a report of witchcraft from one of the villagers. You know that he will find and interrogate people in order to find a witch; and sometimes up to a third of the village can be accused. You may feel a pressure to try to work out who the witches are, in order to avoid someone innocent – perhaps yourself! – being accused. The questions of the act are: Do you think that there are witches in the village? Who do you think the witches are? Who do you think you can accuse? What's the best way for you to protect yourself and your family?
By the end of the Act, time is getting short. You will need to either choose people to accuse and to be detained until Hopkins arrives, or else accept that he will interrogate the whole village.
5:30pm – 6pm: Dinner break
6pm – 6:15pm: Private Calibration
Talk to your closest relationships. What do you want from the second act? If you’re feeling stuck, talk with Mo or Laura.
6:15pm – 6:30pm: Group Calibration
Recalibration of the group as a whole, so everyone knows what everyone should know about what people have been doing during the intervening time.
6:30pm – 9pm: Act Two
The Act is set three days after Act One, and begins with news that Hopkins has died en route to the village. However, the witch investigation is still to proceed without him. In a few hours, carriages will be waiting to take the accused witches to imprisonment, prior to facing the assizes in a few months. The question the village now has to grapple with is whether to send the accused, who they had considered witches a few days ago. If they have doubts, then could the witches be casting a spell even now?
9pm – 9:30pm: Optional debrief: Those not debriefing can help with clearing up and packing away.
9:30pm – 10pm: Teardown: We will together return the venue to its original state and pack away all signs of the larp.
10pm: Optional afterparty at a nearby pub.
